W3 Architects Website Redesign_part 2

So after months of designing, revisions, and having design critiques with the client the website is in the final stages before its launch.

Here’s what the landing page looks like now:

There is a large flash animation of project images fading in and out, as well as the project categories and primary navigation on top.

W3 Architects Website Redesign_part 1

During my web design class in the fall I was approached by Warren Wagner, Principle of W3 Architects and professor of Sustainable Design at Woodbury University. I was a former student of Warren’s and there was much hope from both of us to have me contribute in some way to W3 Architects. Well low and behold Warren mentioned that their website needed a face lift from its current look, functionality, and overall sustainable design focus of the firm.

So their current home page looks like this:

BOOKPOOL: Done and done

The Book Pool  website was able to be completed on time, as well as  the Book Pool Mobile application. It looks great and the presentation to the class went on with out a hitch. The class really found the redesign to be very successful because it incorporates features that they are already comfortable with, such as Facebook, iTunes, and Netflix’s. But the most important thing was that images and content are presented in a way that keeps the user engaged and encourages them to tell others.

So we finished the Book Pool group project and here are the web pages for all the content.

Enjoy!

BOOKPOOL: Landing Page Revision

So I’m working with my group on the BookPool website redesign and it’s going well. We all have are respected tasks and are have constructed criticism towards the overall look and feel of the site and the direction that it should take. We recently had a meeting outside of school at the Santa Monica Main Library on 6th and Santa Monica and we had a lot of progress.

The following is the result of designing back and forth between Gabrielle and me for the landing page and what content it should have:

So the logo has gone through some revisions and now it has the attention it deserves. The main artwork in the page reflects an avid reader and a tech savvy crowd that is drawn to images and designed sites. There is a flash animation for more book and the bottom of the site is to introduce the site, thumb nails of the process, and then entering the bookstore. The color scheme is much stronger and the contrast is done in away to draw attention to specific areas and break up the overall composition of the site.

MIDTERM: Mis Cositas ReDesign part_4

So finally after weeks of research and designing I have redesigned the Mis Cositas website home page and a sub page. I decided to continue the pattern technique in their hand crafted bags as a theme throughout the layout to bring continuity and appeal for the products. AlsoI used photos of Loren Sanchez, a news personality, to be a model for the products as a notable latina celebrity who owns some of these products.Mis_Cositas_Index

As you can see I have chosen to use typography to add effect to the ads that are available for the products on the Mis Cositas website. Treating the site as a virtual publication gives the buyer a familiar zone for them to make purchases.

MIDTERM: Mis Cositas ReDesign_part 2

So I was thinking today about the overall dimensions, look and feel, and logo for the Mis Cositas redesign site. Also I was looking at other clothing sites to get an idea of what people are expecting and what direction the Mis Cositas site should take.

MIDTERM: Mis Cositas ReDesign_part 1

Wow it’s been 8-weeks already, time sure flies by. Anyway, for the Midterm project we are assigned to design a home page and sub-page for any site that we choose either real or fictional. On top of that we are to design a site map and figure out how this site would work as a mobile application or on a mobile phone. Sounds like alot, well first things first, lets pick a site that needs a redesign.

Current home page for Mis Cositas website.

MoMA redesigned pages

So I decided to look again at the landing page design for the MoMA website. I felt that the first version that I created was to dependent on imagery and that the technique used to display those images was grossly over used. So first I looked at the personas and did some sketches of what the new MoMA site might look like and this is what I came up with:

Wireframe for Monday May Design

In a class room environment I have always started a project process by looking at other designs of similar websites, then organizing the content information for the particular site is based on the Clients needs and what make the content look appealing. Normally I do this type of wireframing in my sketch book at a smaller scale, but this is a good template to use to presented to clients before designing these areas.

Monday_May_Design

I placed the navigation on top so that from any page you know where you are and can go anywhere. The second page is attempting to balancing images with content while maintaining hierarchy between the positions.
